Which Do I Get?

Finding the best heat rack for you is simple. It all depends on what you are looking to freeze dry.

For regular foods like fruits, vegetables, meats, and candies, deciding on a heat rack largely depends on how much your food expands. For example, when freeze-drying foods like apples or skittles, we suggest using our 5-tray or 4-tray heat racks. These foods don’t expand much, so they don’t need much space between trays. However, if you plan on freeze-drying candies such as taffy, our 2-tray heat rack may be your best option. This is because candies like taffy tend to expand significantly which can be messy to clean if it sticks to the bottom of the next tray. The large volume of the 2-tray heat rack accommodates such cases.

If you are freeze-drying flowers, herbs, plants, or other large foods, our 1-tray (Full Tray) heat rack is perfect. Its large volume allows for larger leaves, plants and foods to be processed. Having the extra heat tray on top helps with the freeze drying of larger items and is preferred compared to the 1-tray (Single Tray).
